Talking to Friends and Family
Talking to family/friends
When suffering from an eating disorder it is often something you keep very private.
Your family and friends often may not know. Thay may suspect something is wrong but find it hard to express their concerns
for you.
It is, however, helpful if there is someone you can talk to and share things with. This may be a parent, friend,
teacher, therapist or Dr.
If you find it hard talking to them in person, it may help if you write them a letter. In
letters you are able to express yourself more and if you say it wrong you can delete and start again until your comfortable
with it.
Here I have drafted a letter that could be used to help you in writing to someone about your eating disorder:
Dear *******
I have been trying to find
the words and courage to talk to you about this. It has been a dark place in me and I want and need to be open and honest
with you.
I have been looking at myself more closely and have come to realise that my relationship with food is an
unhealthy one. I have been (restricting, binging, purging) my food.
I have come to a point where I know I have to do
something and seek help.
I have/will contact my Dr/guidence officer/therapist and talk to them about recieving help
to fight this eating disorder.
I really would like to be open with you and accept your support. This is going to be
a hard fight so please bare with me.
Please ask questions and be open about you feel, as I think that is important.
All
my love ***********
